The Social Function Of The Song, "the Truth"

"Portrait painting" has a long history in China and it's social functions are also diverse and they are even more abundant in Song Dynasty.In this thesis, the portrait paintings in Song Dynasty have been reorganized and analysed in three major functions — moralization functions,practical functions and aesthetic functions. Moralization functions are mainly consisted of three parts, the royal court, the folk and the religion, They are one of the tools which are used to make stronger ruling by a ruling class.The practical functions are mainly consisted of merchandise, diplomacy, funeral, criminal etc., and their influence upon people's daily life is great; Aesthetic functions develop further, the scholar and scholar-bureaucrat write poem and draw portrait painting to express their feelings. They are the aesthetic ideal and living manner of the people. According to the analysis of various functions of portrait painting, the glorious achievement of the protrait painting and the politics, economy, cultural etc. in Song Dynasty are displayed. So we can betterly restore original appearance of the Northern Song Dynasty and Southern Song Dynasty history.
