[Objective] The aim of the present study is to explore the impact factors of the effect of group counseling based on the existing mental problem of college freshmen in China, and to contribute to the framework of psychological health improvement of college student.[Method] 435 freshmen who willing to attend the counseling were selected. Information about general demographic characteristics were got by self-designed questionaire, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire ( EPQ), Self—Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS)and Self Consistency and Congruence Scale ( SCCS) were metrical tools to examine the psychological health status of college students. SAS and SDS were reexamined after the group counseling. Mean and deviation were used to describe the distribution of score of psychological scale. t test and ANOVA were used to test the difference of scale score in different factor levels. Multiple linear regression was used to explore the impact factors of scale score and the score difference.[Results] The difference of the score of anxious and suppress before and after the counseling is statistically significant(t=5.082,P=0.000;t=3.375,P=0.001). Main impact factors of the effect of group counseling are: neuroticism(Beta =0.108), the wish of wanting to make oneself more confident(Beta =0.102), the self-confidence(Beta =-0.098) and gender (Beta =-0.117). There was significant positive correlations between anxious and neuroticism score and the wish of wanting to make oneself more confident, as well as correlations between suppress and the self-confidence and gender. It means that the steadier the motion is, the more the desire to make oneself more confident one have, the lower the self-confidence is,the more evident the anxious and suppress change will be, and the effect of group counseling will be more evident. [Conclusion] (1)Main factors that influence the effect of group counseling are:neuroticism,the wish of wanting to make oneself more confident,the self-confidence and gender. (2)The effect of the group counseling is evident, and further expansion are deserved to improve the psychological health status of college students.
