There are abundant cultural essences deep in both Chinese and Korean proverbs. While similarities and differences coexist, it has a significant value in researching C & K proverbs from different angles. By now several comparative researches have been done, yet there are still some inadequacy in this field, For example: no united standard when choosing the research objects and materials, not adapting the word-for-word approach when translating Korean proverbs, simply comparing the 2 languages from the angle of content and form while using a large number of examples. In a word, more profound and deeper analysis and comparison are badly needed. Therefore, this thesis select 220 common used Korea proverbs and translate them word-for-word trying to keep their original characteristics and make various comparisons with Chinese proverbs in a more scientific way.Chapter 1 as the preface gives a brief survey of Chinese and Korean proverbs, as well as the study reason and approach of this thesis.Chapter 2 focuses on the definition and origins of proverb and the different linguistic characteristics of Chinese and Korean Proverbs.Chapter 3 makes a synthetic comparison in content between Chinese and Korean proverbs. After a synthetic comparison, the proverbs are divided into 4 groups according to their different synthetic contents: totally same in meanings, images and usages, basically same in meanings and different in images (a few different in usages) , similar in meaning, different in images or usages, similar in images while different in meanings and usages. Then take examples separately to come to the conclusion of their characteristics.Chapter 4 makes groups to compare the different contents between Chinese and Korean proverbs. The proverbs are separated into 3 types: proverbs concerning animals, genders and family relationships, proverbs concerning peoples' names, places names and exclusive objects. This part also used examples to bring to the conclusion of characteristics.Chapter 5 makes a study between Chinese and Korean proverbs while using some typical types of proverbs: Korean proverbs and Chinese idioms, Korean exclusive proverbs. This part mainly starts from the angle of Korean proverbs and makes the conclusion of the characteristics pf them. (Korean proverbs)Chapter 6 compares the rhetoric patterns between Chinese and Korean proverbs while analyzing antithesis, metaphor, hyperbole, rhetorical question, compare, etc.
