Filial piety is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation. It is a most importantmoral criterion to deal with the relationship between parents and children, the elderand the younger. Filial piety is the foundation of human relation and morality. Filialpiety plays an important role in China's traditional ethics and even China's traditionalculture. The traditional society of China, in a sense, is the society laying its basis onfilial piety. So we can say that the traditional Chinese culture is the culture of filialpiety. Filial piety is a moral concept, which can reflect the developing rule of mankind.It is the doctrine that has vital force and changes constantly. It is of great theoreticaland realistic significance to study the problem of filial piety. This thesis attempts todwell on the creationary conversion of traditional filial piety on basis of inheritingforefathers'achievements, hence tries to put forward my own opinions on theconstruction of new filial piety mode with new times characteristics.The thesis is made up of three parts:The first part: Summary of the traditional filial piety. According to the oldpeople's explanation, basic meaning of filial piety is to treat parents well. It is a kindof benefaction and virtue. The same as other human morality, filial piety hasundergone the course of forming, development and evolvement. From xizhou to SongYuan Ming Qin Dynasty, filial piety evolved from religious ethics to familial ethics topolitical ethics. There exists historical inevitability in the forming of filial piety. It isthe reflection of feudal agriculture economics and patriarchal clan system on familialethical relationship. During thousand of years of social practice, dominant meaning offilial piety mainly consists the following four aspects, namely supporting andrespecting parents, obeying and advising parents, making oneself well-known to makehis parents pride, burying the died parents and feting them.The second part: Historical evaluation and analysis on the traditional filial piety.Filial piety is the most important virtue.
