| Traditional Chinese filial piety has long been regarded as an "essence of virtue" and a "top goodness." It has had a very significant impact on the Chinese nation's ethics, religion, politics, folk customs, art, and the daily life of ordinary citizens, especially in the personal morality, family ethics and governance of the country. In Chinese history, traditional filial piety has long played an important role in individual and moral cultivation, the construction of family ethics and governance of the country. But later, because the reality of various factors, subject to significant impact on traditional filial piety, filial piety is encountering a huge challenge. The current problems facing the construction of filial piety are mainly as follows:modern citizens' weakening of the concept of filial piety, serious distortion of traditional filial piety, resulting in difficult life of the elderly and inter-generational disorder of a child-centered, worrying situation of the elderly. Therefore, to learn the essence of traditional filial piety, it is of particular urgency to have a study of practical value of traditional filial piety in contemporary society."Treating parents kindly" is a fundamental ethical significance of traditional filial piety, which contains mainly the ethical spirit of love and respect. It is precisely because of this ethical spirit of traditional filial piety, it has been playing an important role in Chinese history. Moreover, this ethical spirit of traditional filial piety is still of great value to our current building of filial piety, mainly in the following areas. First of all, carrying forward the spirit of the traditional ethic of filial piety can cultivate the modern sense of filial piety so that modern citizens understand that respect and care for the elderly is always a basic character of a person. Then, gradually strengthening personal moral cultivation which is based on filial piety can guarantee their growth into a person which can be fit in and needed by a modern community. Secondly, carrying forward the ethical spirit of "love" and "respect" in the tradition of filial piety is able to make children be aware of parents'hard work in bringing them up, know that supporting their parents is the most basic filial piety, filial respect for parents is a higher level of filial piety and filial respect for the elderly remains to be the family virtues which we should inherit from. In addition, a modern citizen should treat properly the thinking of "inaction and admonition" contained in traditional filial piety. Thus, the current status of the absence of filial piety in families will be changed. Reconstructing a normal family life with "proximity of father and son," and "respect for seniority," can strengthen the building of the modern family of filial piety.Based on the aforementioned analysis, the thesis puts forward the following specific measures to realize the value of the essence of traditional filial piety in the contemporary social reality. First, through carrying out filial piety education in the family, parents should set an example for the children and educate them to honor and care for their parents, fostering children's sense of filial piety; through filial piety education in schools, children should be educated to honor parents as the basis of being a person, to respect others, caring society and loving their mother country, and to learn interpersonal skills and beautify their minds. Secondly, with the law playing a catalytic role, the construction of filial piety can be effectively implemented. Thirdly, using various media, filial piety can be carried out through extensive advocacy. Using social media, moral control can be achieved. Using models, the tradition of filial piety can be carried forward across the country. Fourthly, the government can play a leading role by mobilizing community organizations in the context of the whole society to carry out promotional activities of filial piety through developing policies and measures, transforming government functions, strengthening and improving services, providing a material basis for the construction of filial piety through economic development so as to promote the current construction of filial piety. |
