Though Aytmatov is of minority nationality with a small population in Kirghizia of the former Soviet Union, his works enjoy great popularity in the whole world other than his country. The attraction can be ascribed to the humanist ideas and awareness of "global thinking" expressed in his works. We believe that the distinctive perspectives he adopts in narration also contribute greatly to his success. The present thesis attempts to gain a new picture of the writer and his works by making analysis of these distinctive perspectives employed in his representative works. The analysis of his renowned work Chamilia enables us to see that the writer begins to attach great importance to the employment of distinctive perspectives in his early works. Another feature deserves our attention is that he gives a lot thought to the development and perfection of humans. His anti-orthodox and anti-religion thought also found their expressions in his early work. His employment of the looking-inside perspective is quite precious during the time when looking-outside perspective is dominant in the realm of writing in the Soviet Union. He is the forerunner of this writing approach, so to speak. Secondly, from the representative works of the writer we find that his employment of distinctive perspectives matures with the appearance of his works. Finally, the later works of the writer reflects a turn from his former works. The analysis indicates that the turn results from the adoption of new perspectives. The analysis of the works of this successful writer reveals that the employment of distinctive perspectives is of great importance in the writing in the sense that it strengthens the expressive force of literary works and deepens the themes of the works.
