| Tang Period was an important time when great progress had made in the field of history education. With the gradual perfection of the examination system during this period, history education underwent great hardship, from prosperity to decline, which made the deep influence on the Tang's politics, economy and culture. Therefore, it is very important and necessary to do some researches systematically on the following subjects such as the history of ancient Chinese education, the history of history, the society history and the culture history. However, few researches on them have been done in the academy circle, and So far no topic on the history education of Tang Period has been studied also. So in this thesis we intend to do some primary researches on the Tang's history education, which mainly focus on the following four aspects: taking the history education seriously in the society, exerting the history education in the school, the role of history education and the characteristics of history education.Shocked strongly by the farmers'war at the end of the SuiPeriod, and having seen the previous States overturned, the Tang's Emperors needed urgently to find out a good way from others' experiences to govern their state and people. So the governors paid much more attention upon the history than the fore-governors did, which offered a political and ideological presupposition to develop the history education. Its main characteristics are as follows: establishing more schools, which made the history education prosperous ; studying the history more attentively, which developed the history education widely; respecting the history talents, which prepared the teachers for the history education; compiling the history much more carefully, which offered the high quality textbooks for he history education.In the TangPeriod, the history education began to become an important part of the dailyteachings in all kinds of schools because much more attention was paid to checking thehistory knowledge in the examinations. And so the history teaching became the basic way to exert the history education accordingly. It's well known that the Confucianism and some kinds of enlightenment books dominated the Tang's school teaching, but with the History fixed to be the basic subject in the Great Examination, some authorized history books such as ShiJi, HanShu, HouHanShu etc.also became the history textbooks in succession. Apartfrom passing on the history knowledge, the teaching focused on absorbing and criticizing all sorts of ideological views hidden in the textbooks, and therefore, the ideology education also became an important part of the history teaching. The teaching methods mainly included some traditional teaching methods such as the lecturing method, reading and directing method and questioning method etc..The history knowledge was spread widely through the history education, which further produced the great bearing on the Tang's society. For example, a great many excellent talents for governing appeared by the history education, and on the other hand the history education also prospered the history and developed the literture.Compared with the prior Periods, the history education in the Tang's schools had the more obvious characteristics of systematization as well as specialization. As the system of the Great Examination was put into practice, the pattern was broken that the door to the official career had been controlling by the nobles since the WeiJin Period and South and North Period. In order to enter the official career, the common persons showed more and more interest in the history education and therefore the history education in TangPeriod had the characteristics of specialization.
