The present study explored the characteristics of coping style and subjective well-being , and the relationship between them as well. Using Life Satisfaction Index A and Coping Style Questionnaire, a survey was conducted to 92 relatives of prisoners and a control group of 89 common people as well. It is founded that: (1) solving problem is a very important coping style , besides which, relatives of prisoners tends to adopt rationalization and illusion, but seeking help and retreat are preferred by the control group. There is no sexual or social status difference in coping style, but age difference is found. (2) Subjective well-being is relatively stable, and no age difference there. Well-being of female is higher than male's, and the social status difference is significant statistically. (3)The result of correlational analysis shows that Coping style of relatives of prisoners is different from which of the group. Solving problem is a type of positive coping style, but self accusation and retreat are two negative coping styles. Self accusation is a strong predictor of relatives of prisoners, which can explain 28. 3% the variation of subjective well-being. While subjective well-being of the control group can be predicted from solving problem and illusion, which have explained 25% variation of well-being.
