| As a case study of "Qi Wu Lun", the paper attempts to give an exact interpretation of "Qi Wu Lun" by expounding its key concepts, structure, theme and position in " Inner Chapters ".It consists of four chapters and two appendixes.Chapter One is a detailed discussion about the five key concepts " Wu Sang Wo ", " Wu Hua ", " Yi Ming ", "Bao Guang " and " Wu Jing ". Based on the analysis of the previous studies, the author put forward her own understanding of the key concepts.Chapter Two explores the structure of "Qi Wu Lun". It first classifies the previousstudies in terms of its structure into four types--three parts, four parts, six parts, andseven parts. Drawing on this classification, the paper divides "Qi Wu Lun" into three parts, which are introduction, text and conclusion. And the text can be further divided into twoparts--" why things are equal " and " how things are equal ". The end of the chapterpoints out three characteristics of Chuang Tzu 's thinking--recursive, poetic,progressive.Adopting a " bottom-up " strategy, Chapter Three explores the meanings of the title "Qi Wu Lun ". It first discusses the previous studies on the title and then analyses the meaning of the title by examining respectively the three characters. Derived from the findings in the preceding two chapters, the author concludes that "Qi Wu Lun " can be interpreted as " An Exposition of Qi Wu " and "Qi Wu " carries the meanings of " equality among things " and " things being equal ".By following Chuang Tzu's thread of philosophical thought and analyzing the organic relationship between the seven chapters in "Inner Chapters ", Chapter Four points out that "Qi Wu Lun" takes a significant position in "Inner Chapters " and serves as a connecting link between the preceding chapters and the following ones.The two appendixes attached at the end of the paper are the survey of the previous studies about "Chuang Tzu " and the collection of the previous explanatory notes on the key words and sentences in "Qi Wu Lun". |
