The Comment And Explanation On The Place Names In The Titles Of Bai Juyi's Poems

Bai Juyi, a well-known poet in Mid-Tang Dynasty, plays an important role in Chinese poetry history. From Tang Dynasty to the present, the study of Bai Juyi's poems is continuing unceasingly. In recent years, more and more scholars have great enthusiasm to research in this field. However, only a few people study it from the scope of literature geography. This paper explains the place names in the titles of Bai Juyi's poems with the literature geography method and makes a further study of the impact of geography on Bai Juyi's poetry.This paper is divided into three parts. The foreword explores the influence of the main residences of Bai Juyi in his whole life on his poem creation on the whole. The paper classifies these places into two parts: metropolitan area and Yangtze Valley and make investigation on theses two parts respectively. The poems of Bai Juyi created when he lived in Chang'an and Luoyang carry an obvious metropolitan color and have one kind of north characteristic in natural scenery description. However, the poetry created when he lives in Yangtze valley seldom relates to a street and lane, without any majestic style or the strongly worldly tone, and the description of natural landscape embodies more southern flavor.In the body part of this paper, I arrange place names in the tiles of Bai Juyi's Poems according to administrative areas of Tang Dynasty, then explain them one by one. Regarding the names of important places, I add my own comments in behind, which either inspect the geographical source and its development, show the similarities and differences in different literature accounts, or analyze the relations between the geographic names and Bai Juyi's poetry creation, or compare his poetry with the related poems by other poets', and so on.There is " Bai Juyi Poem Topic Gazetteer" behind the body part, which provides convenience for the readers to search the geographic name.
