| Chime(shi qing, 石(?) is a kind of Chinese ancient percussion instrument, which stands for the second one among Chinese ancient classifications of instrument. There were many detailed records in ancient books, also in unearthed artifacts. In this dissertation, comparative method is used to classify the Chimes, which different from many other exporters whose classifications are based on political change. The classification method for Chime in this paper is based on Chime body element: shape, decoration, inscription(posy), and temperament etc.Chime is divided into indistinct shape Chime, transformed shape Chime, finalizing pattern Chime, and decoration pattern Chime. From this method, the cause of development for Chime is also analyzed feasibly.1) The shapes of indistinct Chime had many kinds. Some of them expressed owner's desire, the other maybe implied the theme of totem.The sturdy line was used in engraved decoration, and the content was the theme of animal, such as fish, tiger, and parrot etc. Inscription for recording affair appeared only once. Because pitchs had many kinds, the law about their temperaments couldn't be found.2)Within transform shape, the shapes of Chime also has many varieties. But it has a clear direction.That is two parts like gu(J&) and gu(|$)gradually obvious.Decoration on transformed shape chime was still shadowly carved in lines, but its lines are much finer, and have few developements on red beplaint. There is also only one kind of inscription for recording affair in this shape. But the number of its words increases.In this shape, there are few Assembly Chimes(SH). Owing to lack of attunement technique, the Assembly Chime was only compound Chime.3) The shape in finalizing pattern Chime tends to more unify. But this unification was still at development parase. The character has two distinct parts as gu and gu, and its structure tends to be proportional to playing;(i.e:2:3).There were arc under upside engendering owing to attunement. Though decoration method was still followed later, its compositions of a picture were sharply evoluted, and the fluency for line was also boosted up and some sorts of coloured drawing Chime appeared. In this pattern, inscription had already perfectly employed.There were many development in temperament as Assembly Chime was becoming mature. In Chime scale structure, tripletonic scale emphasized on perfect forth, major second interval, perfect fifth, i.e: zhi (WC)~ gong (IS)梥hang(iSi) mode; tetratonic scale main mode was gong-jiao-zhi-yu; pentatonic scale mode was gong-shang-jiao-zhi-yu, and zhi-yu-gong-shang-jiao was its assistant mode.4) Shape changed again on Decoration pattern Chime. The variety based on ornamental intention which leading mode were semmtry folding ruler shape, then had many plasmodium. But there were also many similar mode to finalizing pattern Chime on Qing Palase Chime. From their shape, we can easily understand their purpose being not on music affair but on sacrifice or political activity. There were many inscription which are mostly for recording affair, which temperament inscription doesn't fit their pitchs any more. In this pattern Chime, it must be able to tune the pitch. Howerer, craftsman didn't work as that. From these phenomena, we could know Chime return td the role of ceremony or courtesy. The return destine to fall down for Chime art.From this study, some clues have been found about Chimes. Such as: Shape: variety ?uinity-variety; Decoration: sturdy line梖ine line and red beplait梖ine fluency line and tend to colorful drawing梘olden line drawing and more thirsty for composition picture; Inscription: recording affair梤ecording affair and temperament inscription (inscription fitting to its pitch)梤ecording affair and temperament inscription (inscription couldn't fitting to its pitch); Temperament: having no scale evidence梥cale tend to mature梥cale don't clear. |
