Generally, in the vocabulary development of the modern Chinese language, the rootompounded method is the major mean to build words. The affixttached worduilding has always played the less important role. But in recent years, the development and change of the vocabulary system has attracted more and more interest. The quantity of the affixes is increasing, and the ratio of the affixttached worduilding to other worduildidngs is rising constantly. In this thesis, we inquire preliminarily nto the definition, function, origin and classification of the Chinese language affixes. We consider that the Chinese language affixes are fixed梡osition and agglutinative. They can?t be independent words according to their meanings in the compoundords. They have no real meanings but have the structural function. They have always been generalized, and have abstractly vocabulary meanings and certainly grammatical meanings. Furthermore, they have the property of generality to a fairly degree. Most of them are productive. They have grammatical, semantic and aspect function. This thesis shows the affixes word by word. The new affixes and the new use of the old affixes can produce many new words that is one of the motie force to develop the vocabulary system of the modern Chinese language. We compare the Chinese words in the Korean language with the affixes of Chinese language and gain some enlightenment.
