"west Lake Set Study

Collected Stories on West Lake by Zhou Qingyuan, which consists of thirty-four scrolls, was published during the Chongzhen's Reign. As a representative work of Chinese novel in Ming and Qing Dynasty, it has a distinguished regional feature. Thus, it becomes a typical novel of the West Lake Novel School. Based on this novel, this paper, starting with West Lake Novel, combines the Zhou Qingyuan's thoughts and emphasizes the analysis of his work by combing the inheritance and changes of Zhou's works and those of his predecessors. In addition, this paper attempts to summarize the artistic features and achievements of this work.This paper consists of five parts.Chapter one is a general introduction to Collected Stories on West Lake and its author, Zhou Qingyuan.Chapter two explains the sources of the stories in the novel, and analyzes the inheritance and changes of the materials from the aspect of characters, plot and theme.In the Chapter three, the author, starting with the background of regional literature, elaborates the concept of West Lake Novel. Besides, during the analysis of its development and relevant researches, it attempts to display the similarities and differences revealed by the analysis.The Chapter four starts with the features of text and expounds the concept of novel represented by Collected Stories on West Lake during this period.Chapter five begins with the feature of the subject matter and analyzes the character of novels on ordinary people in ancient China. Also, it analyzes the scholar's feelings contained in the work.With the analysis, this paper demonstrates the character of Collected Stories on West Lake, and proves that it is a novel on ordinary Chinese in ancient China. Meanwhile, this novel is also the representative work of West Lake Novel. Though this novel draws on the experiences of the predecessors, it has changes and innovations as well.
