Television series, as important product of mass culture, experiencing more than 50 years of developing in a twists and rich way in China. Under the impacts of political discourse, economic development and cultural tradition, the TV series in Mainland were not directed at industrialization until china's reform and open-up in 1978. TV typification, a symbol of ripe stage of TV series industrialization and concrete developing trend, play a double-edged effect on Chinese TV series development.This thesis introduces three stages of the mainland TV series typification development on the condition of systematic elaboration on types , and with consideration of mainland cultural, economic and political background, and concludes several characteristics including diverse types, rapid developing, close integration with traditional culture and timely revealing of social life. And the characteristics oriented from property of TV series, audience's psychology, management of TV series and production system. Under the basis of analyzing major types of mainland TV series, this thesis gives importance to two successful cases——The Lurk (Qian Fu )and Before the Dawn (Li Ming Zhi Qian)——and with the comparison, it concludes the driving force of typification in the TV series development and the adverse impacts it brought, like similar themes and plots.In view of such present situation, theorists have insufficient realization of values and significance of types, which fetter the development of TV series industrialization. This thesis, with the help of relative theories on mass culture, cultural criticism and typification, makes an effort to a discussion on future development of TV typification, how to alleviate the adverse impacts of types and how to let types to perform its active function.
