Mural art is a kind of space art, and a kind of public art. In recent years, the problem of the relationship between mural art and modern public environment become more serious. Then the research and discussion about this problem has been rich and diverse. Most researchers just focus on the urban sculpture or other outdoor mural arts while the degree of concerning about metro public art is out of proportion to its importance. After all, quantity and type range of audience of metro public art is large and wide. I will set this starting point for this thesis and make an inspection of metro mural arts, which is the main part of the metro public art. From the first subway line was been built in Beijing in 1969, there has been 42 years of China's metro construction. Now, the metro mural arts are facing great development and transformation. In the modern background and value orientation, modern metro mural arts will go for where, what would be inherit from the traditional metro mural arts, and what would be abandoned?All of those questions are the concerning points which this thesis pay attention to and solve to. The earlier research on metro mural arts, most of them are case study, which provided the important experience on materials and technical.while few people talked about the development direction of metro mural arts, which of most essence and practical significance.This thesis will attempt to make an inspection on current representative metro mural arts and explore the characteristics and trends of its development, aiming to provide the reference on China's metro mural arts creating work.
