Thunderbolt Moxibustion Treatment Of Osteoarthritis Of The Knee In Clinical Studies

Objective:To investigate the effect of Leihuojiu as a treatment on the knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients who has deficiency of the 1 kidney and obstruction of blood stasis.Methods:Seventy-two patients meeting the diagnosis criteria were included and randomly divided into two groups:36 in the treatment group and 36 in control group. The treatment group were given the prescription of Bu Shen Huo Xue (nourish ing kidney and removing blood stasis) and Leihuojiu treatment, the control group were given only the prescription of Bu Shen Huo Xue during one-month observation period. KOA symptoms rating scale and VAS had been observed. The effect was estimated by analyze the scores before and after treatment.Result:In treatment group, the controlled and remarkable effective rate is 56.67% and the total effective rate is 87%. While in the control group, the controlled and remarkable effective rate is 51.62% and the total effective rate is 90%. Between the 2 groups, significant difference is present between scores before and after treatment (P<0.05). Compared with the controlled group, the accumulated points of pain, and disability of the joints decreased significantly after treatment in treatment groups (P<0.05),while the accumulated points of swelling decreased unsignificantlyConclusions:The effectiveness of Bu Shen Huo Xue has already been confirmed in KOA treatment. This research proved that the symptoms and signs of KOA can be greatly improved by the treatment method of Leihuojiu associated with Bu Shen Huo Xue, especially in reducing the pain and disability of the joints. So the effectiveness of Leihuojiu is confirmed too.
