Herba Lophatheri is dried stem and leaves of a gramiaceous plant called Lophatheri, which is distributed in most parts of south China as one of the common medicine for antipyretic. Because of its powers of clearing heat, elieving fidgetness and diuresis, it is used to cure pyreticosis, polydipsia, ardor urine, and aphthous stomatitis. Proved by modern pharmacology, Herba Lophatheri has various activities in many aspects such as diuresis, antipyretic, bacteriostasis, lipid lowering, antioxidation and so on. Apart from medicinal, it can also be used for food and health care products along with characteristics as strong and full of vitality, short period of growth cycle, abundant in natural resources.2005 of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia has a record of Herba Lophatheri; however, in the standards there are only simple characters and microscopy identification without method of specificity so far. Currently, no matter at home and abroad, the research of its chemical constituents is not in depth, so it is of great necessity to in-depth study those unknown components.Phyllostachys heteroclada Oliver is a plant of gramineae, which is distributed in most parts of south China. At present, no matter at home and abroad, there are few publishes which researched the chemical constituents of the plant.Techniques as TLC, normal phase silica gel column chromatography, polyamide column chromatography, sephadex column chromatography etc. have been used to determine chemical constituents of Herba Lophatheri; what's more, structures have been identified through making use of physical and chemical properties and spectroscopic methods. A total of 19 compounds are isolated,15 of them are identified. Among them there are 9 flavonoids, respectively:tricin, luteolin, tricin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, vitexin, swertiajaponin, luteolin-7-methyl ether-6-C-β-D-galactopyranoside, salcolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside, luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, isoorientin; 2 triterpenoids, respectively:cylindrin, fernenol; 2 sterols, respectively:β-sitosterol,β-daucosterol; 1 higher fatty acids composition: lauric acid; 1 other ingredient:uracil. Six compounds including luteolin-7-methyl ether-6-C-β-D-galactopyranoside, salcolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside, luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, fernenol, lauric acid, uracil are isolated from the Herba Lophatheri for the first time.Techniques as TLC, normal phase silica gel column chromatography, sephadex column chromatography etc. have been used to determine chemical constituents of Phyllostachys heteroclada Oliver; what's more, structures have been identified through making use of physical and chemical properties and spectroscopic methods.4 compounds are isolated. All of them are flavonoids, respectively:luteolin, orientin, isoorientin, isovitexin. They are isolated from Phyllostachys heteroclada Oliver for the first time.
