Female Sex Of The Highway Surrounding The Intervention Study

Objective:To investigate HIV/AIDS related knowledge,attitude and behavior change among female sex workers(FSWs)after one year intervention,and to explore the influencing factor of insistence condom use.Method:Baseline and evaluation surveys were carried out to evaluate the effect of the comprehensive intervention.Both qualitative and quantitative methods had been used during the process of the study to collect data of HIV/AIDS related knowledge, attitude and behavior.Conclusion:The female sex workers,along the construction sites of Baolong express way,had low levels of education and are a highly transient population.They are familiar with the three transmission channels of HIV/AIDS,but still confuse about some certain HIV/AIDS core information.They are highly conscious about the risk of HIV/AIDS infection.The willingness of consistent condom use is definitely high in both baseline and evaluation surveys.After one year intervention,television and peers are still the best way to access the HIV/AIDS information;doctor and free IEC materials play an important role in the acquisition of HIV/AIDS information. Meanwhile condom use with commercial partners has significantly increased,but is still low with stable sex partners.After intervention,the proportion of female sex workers who go to private medical clinics for STI diagnosis and treatment decreased significantly.In the evaluation survey,there is a significant difference of HIV/AIDS knowledge between female sex workers who participated in the intervention or not.The intervention is helpful for female sex workers to improve their knowledge about the three transmission channels of HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS core information.The intervention also increased the condom use with stable partners in their most recent sexual encounter.Different entertainment sites as well as reported genital disorders in the last year are the influencing factors of consistent condom use.Recommendation:(1)The intervention of female sex workers should start before they go in for commercial sex work.(2)The making of IEC materials should be tailored to the needs of the intervention population,paying particular attention to issues related to literacy as well as user feedback.(3)Strengthen the HIV/AIDS infection awareness of female sex workers.(4)Actively promote condom use in female sex workers.(5) Provide high quality and normative STI diagnosis and treatment services to female sex workers.(6)we should mobilize the "boss" to take part into the HIV/AIDS prevetion(7)Actively play the role of peers(8)The implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention in infrastructure construction sites should consider the diversity of risk populations within the site,and tailor its programming accordingly.
