The Clinical Efficacy Of Arthroscopic Treatment Of Knee Discoid Meniscus

Background and pourpose:Discoid meniscus is the vestige of viviparous cartilage development of knee and is inclined to be congenital development.With discoid meniscue become larger and thicker,it always results in pain,snapping,sports disability and articular cartilage degeneration.Discoid meniscus can also bring arthritis to people and influence the mass health.The traditional method to treat the discoid meniscus is open the capsule and resect the meniscus,but the ending is arthritis.With the improvement of the MRI and the technique of the arthroscope,the diagnosis of the discoid meniscus get a further improment and arthroscope become the primary means treated discoid meniscus.Now most people think that discoid meniscus appear symptom should be treated by the arthroscope just to reserve some of meniscus. The methods in common use are the shaping of the discoid meniscus(the partial resection),hypo-complete resection and comolete resection.The partial resection with the arthroscope is the most classical operation which can reserve the normal meniscus maximally.It has got to a commcn view that the width of the body should reserve under 6-8mm during the operation.The reserved shape should be accord with the anatomic shape.The purpose of this research was to evaluate the the time of discoid meniscectomy and research the curative effect that the arthroscope treat the discoid meniscus.Methods:1.Include 40 in-patient who was diagnosed as discoid meniscus in our hospital.2.They were operated by arthroscopy.30cases(30knees) were the shaping of discoid meniscus,10cases(10knees) were hypo-complete resection of discoid meniscus.About the shaping of discoid meniscus under arthroscopy,the width of meniscus should be remained 6-8mm.3.The knee function was evaluated by Lysholm knee function score in the 40 patients before surgery and after surgery.4.Statistical analyse:The preoperative and postoperative Lysholm score was analysised by paired t-test.And postoperative lysholm score was analysised by t-test between the different group of age.Results:1.All the patient was in follow-up,the period is 3 to 18 months.There was no complications and no second operation in postoperation except one patient that was found the pain and swelling of the knee joint.2.There was prominent difference between preoperative and postoperative Lysholm score.It showed that the curative effect of meniscectomy is good. Conclusion:1.Arthroscopic operation has the advantages of minimal invasion,quick recovery,early functional exercise.2.Arthroscopic operation may rescet the redundant or injured sucture of the meniscus,and the width of meniscus should be remained 6-8mm.3.Arthroscopic operation reserve meniscus farthest,reduce stress,it is ideal measure to cure the discoid meniscus.4.The sufferer of discoid meniscus should be treated by Arthroscopy early.
