An in Vivo Preliminary Research on the Morphology of Reshaping Cartilage Assisted by 1.54μm ER:YAG Laser IrradiationObjective To study morphological changes of in vivo reshaping cartilage assisted by 1.54μm Erbium laser. Methods New Zealand rabbits 6 (six pairs of rabbit ears) were fixed by a plastic cylindrical tube (diameter=12mm) maintaining the curvature. The experimental group cartilage was irradiated by 1.54μm Erbium laser (3 millisecond, 7 pulses, 12 J/cm2, 84J/cm2 cumulative fluence), the control group was not on the laser radiation. One week after radiation to remove fixtures, ear cartilage specimens were havested two weeks after radiation. Photographs and biopsy specimens were taken, and histopathological examination was performed. Result Compared with the control, experimental group cartilage shaded light-colored stripes in laser radiation matrix area. Conclusion Rabbit ear cartilage can be safely shaped by laser with cooling system, chondrocyte vacuolated in kytoplasm and proteoglycan in cartilage matrix have a significant change during plastic process.
