| ObjectiveIn accordance with the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), to explore the nature of AIDS disease in TCM, the common types of tongue with HIV/AIDS patients due to transmitted by commercial blood donor in Henan province, the influential effect of the change of tongue by anti-HIV therapy(HAART), and the relationship between tongue figure and development of AIDS, through observation on tongue figure of 558 cases with HIV/AIDS patients and the relationship between tongue figure and CD4+T lymph cell values, which would be helpful for the diagnosis and prognosis, clinical treatment.Material and MethodAll the 558 cases came from the rural area of Henan Province. Of 359 cases have been taking HAART therapy (A group), 199 cases haven't take any medication for AIDS before (B group). The tongue figure pictures were taken by Cannon digital camera outside the door under natural light from 9 am to 12 am, meanwhile the patients were sitting straight with tongue putting out naturally. The analysis and diagnosis of tongue figures were done by 3 professional doctors. Examination of tongue include tongue color, tongue shape, moving state of tongue, color of tongue coating, texture of tongue coating, location of tongue coating.The tongue examination results of A group and B group were compared with each other, and both compared with 778 cases of HIV negative people(C group) from same district respectively.Patients from B group were divided into 4 groups according to CD4+T lymph cells (≤100/mm~3 100-200/mm~3 200-350/mn~3≥350/mm~3). Analysis of tongue figure was done between these 4 groups.SPSS13.0 was adopted in statistic analysis for x~2 Test. ResultsThe percentages of red tongue, crimson tongue, fissured tongue, mirror-like tongue, swelling tongue, teeth printed tongue, blood stasis tongue, dry coating, exfoliation coating, thick tongue, greasy tongue and middle-root located tongue of HIV/AIDS patients are markedly higher than C group(P<0.05).The percentages of fissured tongue, greasy tongue, thick tongue and middle-root located tongue of A group are markedly higher than B group(P<0.001).The percentages of dark tongue, teeth printed tongue, fissured tongue and white tongue of Patients in B group with CD4+T lymph cells 100-200/mm~3 are markedly higher than patients with CD4+T lymph cells≥350/mm~3.The percentages of dark tongue, blood stasis tongue and bare tongue of patients in group B with CD4+T lymph cells≤100/mm~3 are markedly higher than other groups.ConclusionObservation on 558 cases tongue figure of HIV/AIDS patients suggested that AIDS was a kind of disease which had dampness, phlegm and fluid, blood stasis combined simultaneous occurrence of deficiency and excess and with heat as its nature. Of its numerous pathogeneses, spleen-qi and yang deficiency was especially important.The manifestation of greasy coating, thick coating, and middle-root located coating also suggested that HAART therapy did harm to spleen and stomach.The analysis of relationship between tongue figure and CD4+T lymph cell in B group suggested that with the development of disease, patients with CD4+T lymph cell≤100/mm~3 had significant increased rate of occurrences of dark light tongue, stasis tongue and bare coating. |
