Neiguan Point Along The Skin Penetration Acupuncture In The Treatment Of Elderly Patients With Chronic Lumbar Muscle Strain, And Its Efficacy Evaluation

Today the chronic strain of lumbar muscles is a common and frequently encountered disease for the elderly. It has been paid attention by the society and medical area since it influences the elderly's life quality. The chronic strain of lumbar muscles of the elderly refers to the accumulating srain of the lumbar parenchyma, and the lasting chronic pain is caused by the congestion, dropsy and conglutination of the parenchyma, contracture of the scar. PC6 (NeiGuan Point) is an effective acupoint for treating varies kinds of pain. For these several years the researches have already enlarged the clinical application scope of relieving pain by PC6, but the researches on treating chronic strain of lumbar muscles is little. Because of that, this research is for observing the clinical curative effect of treating chronic strain of lumbar muscles by needling PC6 through the skin with RCT method.Methods :60 clinic patients were randomly distributed to PC6 treatment group (treatment group for short) and common acupoint control group (control group for short). All the 60 cases completed the whole research progress. The control group chose acupoints according to the Acupuncturology. The treatment group selected PC6 with the acupoints of control group. Both groups got treatment one day after another, ten times a period of treatment, then observed the curative effect after finished. The curative effect evaluation included the score of VAS before and after the treatment, pain, pressing pain, lumbar movement and aggregate score. The baseline of both groups were in order, the comparability was good(P>0.05).Results :1.Clinical curative effect: The clinical effective rates of treatment group and control group were 96.67% and 86.67% respectively, while the curative rate were 43.33% and 6.67%. With the rank test, there was a significant difference for the total improvement rate(P<0.01). With X2 test, there was no difference between the clinical effective rate of treatment group(96.67%) and control group(86.67%), P>0.05. There was a significant difference between the clinical curative rate of treatment group(43.33%) and control group(6.67%), P<0.01.2.The improving condition of each index: There was a difference between each before and after index, like pain, pressing pain, lumbar movement, etc(P<0.05). For the pain index, the treatment group was obvious better than the control group(P<0.01). For the pressing pain item, there was a difference between the treatment group and the control group(P<0.05). For the lumbar movement item, there was no difference between the treatment group and the control group(P>0.05).3.There was no side effect and accident.Discussion : 1.The RCT clinical observation shows that, both the treatment group and control group get clinical symptom improvement, however, the curative rate of treatment group is better than the control group. The improvement function of relieving pain is better than the control group, there is a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01). The improvement function for the pressing pain is better than the control group, there is a difference between the two groups (P<0.05). For the improvement of lumbar movement, there is no difference between the treatment group and the control group(P>0.05). The results show that, the treatment group selected PC6 with the acupoints of control group, and the difference of the curative effect between the two groups explains that PC6 has a strengthening function for treating the chronic strain of lumbar muscles, especially for relieving the pain. This study also indicates that the curative effect has no direct relationship with sex, age and the course of disease.2.Needling with PC6 can strengthen the feeling of acupuncture, which is better for dredging the meridians, regulating the qi and blood, expelling the evil qi, so as to cure the disease.
