| Objective: To study the mechanisms and effect of treatment of tonifying kidney, clearing (heat) and draining (damp), activating blood on primary chronic glomerulonephritis (PCGN).Methods: Theory study and clinical investigation were involed in this study. Selecting and analyzing classic and morden articles were the main methods of theory study. In clinical investigation, professor Sun's experience on the treatment of PCGN was summarized first. Then 131 PCGN (75 CGN, 56 CRF) patients who were treated by tonifying kidney, clearing and draining, activating blood were involved. Their changes of syndrome pattern, urinary and blood lab datas were recorded and analyzed. Results: Kidney insufficiency, damp (heat) and blood stasis were the main mechanisms of PCGN. Kidney insufficiency was the base of occurrence. Damp (heat) and blood stasis were the key mechanisms of progression. So tonifying kidney, clearing (heat) and draining (damp), activating blood were the main methods of treatment on PCGN. The short-term efficiencies of CGN and CRF (3 months) were 84.0% vs 85.7%. The long-term efficiencies of CGN and CRF were 81.3% vs 80.4%. Patients' symptom scores were reduced significantly compared with initial level (P<0.05). Proteinuria was decreased significantly (P<0.05) But there was no significant change in hematuria (P>0.05). The treatment could stabilize the level of Scr. There was no changes in kidney survival rates compared with initial datas (P>0.05). After treatment the level of Albumin was increased whereas that of cholesterol was decreased (P<0.05).Conclusion: Treatment of tonifying kidney, clearing (heat) and draining (damp), activating blood could relieve the discomfortable symptoms, improve quality of life, reduce proteinuria, slow the progression of renal damage and balance the nutrition state. |
