Lung Fibrosis is usually a long-term pathological process. But SARS patients appear to have pathological changes soon after they are taken bad, especially when their symptoms become catabatic after salvage but usually the sequela of lung fibrosis comes out which has a severe influence on the patients' life quality after recovery. Therefore, the focus of this essay is to post the relationship between SARS virus and lung fibrosis and to explore the pathogenesis and treatment of lung fibrosis in SARS in Chinese Medicine. The essay begins with the analysis of symptom ascription in light of Chinese Medicine from the point of view of doctrine of epidemic febrile disease and lung fibrosis. Because it has a close relationship with "stagnation of Qi and blood in lung" in Chinese Medicine, it is more appropriate to call SARS "a disease about stagnation of Qi and blood in lung". In this essay, the lung fibrosis in SARS is classified into two aspects: acute period and chronic period. In acute period, the emphasis is on the raid in lung from the virus and the pathogenesis mainly includes damp-heat virus harming lung, lung-qi being stuck, sudden decrease of body fluid and qi, and stagnant lung net. The treatment is mainly removing pathogenic factors with the help of melting silt and paying attention on body fluid and qi. In chronic period, the emphasis is on the weakness of vital-qi, phlegm and blood stasis obstructed in Lung collaterals, which is syndrome of deficiency Ben and excessive Biao. The treatment should include not only the dynamic changes of phlegm retention, blood stasis, qi deficiency, yin deficiency and the question of primary and secondary, but also a clear statement of the extent of the weakness and wane of relevant viscera which could be qi deficiency of both Heart and Lung, deficiency of both Lung and Spleen, deficiency of Lung, Spleen and Kidney, and so on, and practical uses of medicine. In the hints for treatment, a detailed discussion is achieved by talking about the using time, principles of medicine use and action mechanism of six methods of treating lung fibrosis in SARS.
