| As the society progresses, the increase of competition and fastened pace of life are proportional to the increase of climacteric syndromes. The health and quality of life of women in menopause has become a focus in modern society. It is increasing more important to study the effects of climacteric syndromes to prevent diseases accompanied with aging. Theories of climacteric syndromes in modern medicine include: neuro-endocrine system, genes theory, neuro-psychology, and societal factors, etc. In the past, traditional Chinese medicine understands menopause as relating to functions of the five organs, that its etiology is mainly because of kidney deficiency, liver stagnation, spleen deficiency and the dysfunction of the heart governing the spirits, plus blood stagnation. In addition, it is also related to lung and phlegm.Objective: This thesis is an analysis of recent studies on a combination of Chinese medicine and western medicine in the treatment of climacteric syndromes. It also summarizes Dr. Yong Tan's years of clinical experiences in the treatment of this disease. The purpose is to propose an approach to treating climacteric syndromes, to establish a foundation for further research and prevention of climacteric syndromes.Methods: Under the guidance of Dr. Yong Tan, by combining her unique clinical experiences with an extensive research of classical Chinese medicine literature, this research studies the characteristic etiology of climacteric syndromes and therapeutic treatment methods.Conclusion: The study found that the characteristic etiology of climacteric syndromes to be yin deficiency. The pathology is the imbalance of yin and yang, with kidney deficiency as the main cause and spreading to other organs as a result. It is also closely related to one's psychological health, her environment, and state of mind. Therefore, we propose in the treatment of climacteric syndromes, the main focus is to tonify the kidney, nourish yin, clear heat, benefit kidney and calm the heart, harmonize water and fire, balance ying and yang. At the same time, it is important to note the symptoms of climacteric syndromes also include a combination of heat and cold, the syndrome of upper heat and lower cold. Additional complimentary and combinations of therapies are key to ensure a sustained recovery. Another effective method is the emphasis that one must have sympathy towards the patients, and provide counseling when necessary. |
