Objective: Studying and summarizing characteristics of Zheng types and compatible rules of Chinese medicinal compound formulae concerning ancient dizziness by philology, so analyzing developed conditions of dizziness concerning treatments of T. C. M at different ages by contrast.Methods: 370 pieces of formulae involved in treatments of ancient dizziness were collected according to Formula Dictionary of traditional Chinese Medicine.Setting up data graphs with EXCEL, Using Chinese medicinal compound formulae analytic softwares joint created between Chendu University of T. C. M and Southwest JiaoTong University to deal with relevant materials by statistic functions of datum frenquence.Results: (1)The medicinal categories that have been used over 100 times include Exterior evil-expelling drugs, deficiency-tonifying drugs, expectorant, asthma-eliminating drugs, heat-clearing drugs, the flow of Qi-regulating drugs, water-disinhibiting dampness-percolating drugs,liver-calming drugs,wind-extinguishing drugs, blood circulation-activating drugs, interior-warming drugs and antirheumatics in proper order. The individual medicine that have been used over 70 times include chuanxiong, banxia, fangfeng, fuling, rensheng, baizhu, tianma, xixin. The most popular combined drugs include different compabilities of above individual drugs. The most five popular Zheng types include wind-phlegm rises to invade mind, phlegm-fire rises to invade mind, wind-heat rises to invade mind, wind-cold rises to heat or phlegm retention due to Qi deficiency, wind-phlegm rises to invade mind accompanied with Qi deficiency.(2)The most popular Zheng type includes wind-phlegm rises to invade mind at every history age. It is distinguished by following characteristics that the Zheng types including affection by external Evils due to Yang deficiency,wind-cold accompanying with dampness etc, are dominated at Han-Tang dynasty, the types including phlegm-fire rises to invade mind, wind-heat rises to invade mind etc, are dominated at Song-Jin-Yuan dynasty, the types including wind syndrome due to blood deficiency etc, are dominated at Ming-Qing ages.
