Hyperthyroidism is a common disease of the endocrine system. It refers to the condition of excessive thyroxine secretion in result of different reasons, correspondingly acting on organs and tissues all over body and arousing hyper-metabolic and hyper-excitatory reaction of nervous, circulative and digestive systems, which is characterized by high-metabolic syndromes, high neural excitation, defused thyroid gland enlargement and exorbitism to different extend.According to the traditional Chinese medicine, this disease is defined as "YingQi" or in other name as "ying", "Yingbing(disease)", "Ying Nang(cavity) " and "Ying dai (shadow bag) " and so on , on account of its clinical manifestations of irritability, magersucht, hyperhidrosis and intolerance to heat, palpitation and frequent stools. There are plenty of literatures and descriptions on hyperthyroidism in the history of T. C. M. In modern time, the contemporary researchers and doctors are having great progress in the research on hyperthyroidism treatment. It has been long for internal treatment with hyperthyroidism to be successfully and non-side-effectly practiced in clinic. However the understanding on the mechanism and etiology of it among doctors is still far from reaching a common and integrate point, which slows down the development of hyperthyroidism in the therapeutic field. In terms of mechanism and etiology, the current traditional Chinese medicine takes it far beyond the realization of the excess aspect of Qi stagnation, blood stasis, phlegm condense and liver fire and yang uprising, but as the deficit aspectof Qi deficiency, Qi-Yin deficiency and spleen-kidney Yang deficiency. This research derives from the years of clinical experiences of my professors on hyperthyroidism diagnosis and treatment. Under the reference of national differential diagnosis standard, we take on theanalysis on hyperthyroidism syndromes differentiation and its correlative factors to explore the relationship between symptoms and differentiation, and the influence of gender and age on differentiation, in the hope of promoting diagnostic standardization. Our founding shows the gender distribution imposes certain influence on the differentiation, that female makes up major part of the cases by types of Yin-deficiency and Qi-stagnation and phlegm-condense while male by Yin-deficiency and fire-heat, implying different features between different sex. The distribution of age also shows difference. Low age group ?0) has major types of fire-heat along with Qi-stagnation and phlegm-condense, mid-age group (20-50) has major types of Yin deficiency besides Qi-stagnation and phlegm-condense, indicating a mix of excess and deficiency. And the late-age group (>50) shows major deficient types of Qi or Yin deficiency, varying with different physique. In the correlative analysis on symptoms and differentiation distribution, we have extracted from 19 common clinical symptoms some typical symptoms with each individual differential type. Among them Qi-deficiency type features in sequence palpitation, insomnia, excessive sweat and intolerance to heat, mass of neck, quivering hands, short breath, magersucht. Yin-deficiency type features palpitation, restlessness and irritability, insomnia, magersucht, mass of neck and thirst. The Qi-stagnation and phlegm-condense type features mass of neck, chest oppression, palpitation, restlessness and irritability, magersucht, excessive sweat and intolerance to heat as well as quivering hands. Fire-heat type features restlessness and irritability, bitter taste, palpitation, thirst, quivering hands, excessive sweat and intolerance to heat and insomnia. At las-t the blood stasis, type features mass of neck, palpitation, restlessness and irritability, insomnia, excessive sweat and intolerance to heat, quivering hands.ffe have only started out on the way to the differential researches on hyperthyroidism by exploring the distribution features between gender, age, symptoms and the differential diagnostic types. We hope this initial study mak...
