The purpose of this research is to explore the clinical significance of the differentiation of TCM based on the pathological classification in the combination of TCM with Western medicine. 117 in-patients with Chronic glomerulo nephritis underwent renal biopsy and the results were compared with the syndromes differentiated referring to the standard of differentiation established in 1986. The results showed that the two were highly related to each other. The pattern of qi deficiency of lung(spleen) and kidney accounted for 16.33%, deficiency of qi and yin at 69.33%, the figure of yin deficiency of liver and kidney is 9.40%, and the rest, pattern of yang deficiency of spleen and kidney accounted for 5.12%. The most significant pattern was that of deficiency of both qi and yin. Two patterns of superficiality, phlegm and wind pathogen were added to the standard of differentiation. According to the clinical analysis, the experiment showed a total effect rate was over 90%, entire remission and partial remission was over 60%. The relevance between the syndrome differentiation of TCM and pathological type is of great help to objectification standardization and quantification of the patterns, it thus may enhance the efficacy of TCM and promote the communication between TCM and Western medicine.
