The vertebralarterial type of cervical spondylosis (CSA) is a common disease dominated by degenerative changes of the cervical intervertebral discs. The clinical manifestation of vertigo, tinnitus, blurring of vision etc. are usually triggered by injury, prolonged misuse of the cervical spine, or oro-pharang.al infection/inflammation. During the course of the disease, osteophytes and instability of the cervical vertebrae usually occur. Through the literature reviews of both TCM and modern medicine, we have captured the essence of both schools of thought; also, by inheriting the precious experience of a previous acupuncture expert in treating vertigo, we decided to use comprcsaive moxibustion on Baihui(DU 20) point to deal with 揹eficiency of Qi in the upper part of the body? together with eiectroacupuncture on the local area of the cervical spine in order to help restoring the dynamic equilibrium of the cervical spine. It is believed that with this combination of moxibustion and acupuncture, the patency of meridians can be ensured and the Qi and Xue balanced, as a result, the objective of the treatment is achieved. According to the requirement of experimental research, we have conducted a randomized control study on 30 cases of CSA by using standardized diagnosis and strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. The intervention for the experimental group subjects included compressive moxibustion on Haihui point together with elcctroacupuncture on the local areas of the neck; while that for the control group subjects was mere clcctroacupuncturc on the local areas of the neck. Treatment was given on alternate days, and a course included 10 treatments. Just before the commencement and after the completion of a course of treatment, each subject was checked with Transcranial Doppler (TCD) and blood for hemorheology. The results indicated that: 3 1. The effectiveness of treatment for the experimental group was 93.33%; and that for the control group was 86.670/o. 2. The quantitative measurement of clinical symptoms of both groups were shown to be significantly improved (p
