GY Co. Ltd, attached to National Precision Tool Engineering Technology Center, was one of the first batch of the 242 transformed research institutes in 1998. It was formerly known as Chengdu Tool Research Institute (CTRI) which was estalished in 1956. For many years, CTRI has undertaken a lot of key R& D projects and other major tasks from the State, the Machinery Ministry and the Sichan Provinial government, which have trained and brought up a large number of professionals in the fields of cutting tools and measuring instruments, and achieved an abundant research results. However, after transformation, the research labs are no longer adapted to the market-oriented development, even without fundamental production management procedures. Hence, the corporation management is very weak. This dissertation has investigated the development enviroment of GY Co., analyzed the product market competitiveness after its transformation, ascertained the vision, mission, core value and market position of its key products. This dissertation has investigated the characteristics of GY main products and the status quo of the main business process. Based on its fundamental information conditions, it suggests that the business information management be realized with business process reengineering (BPR) as its core, a close combination with its actual needs, and self-developed management information software. This dissertation has studied the BPR cases of GY, analyzed its typical business process before and after BPR, and gave an introduction to its product data management (PDM) re-engineering design process and bar coding system management. Meanwhile, it has objectively analyzed and evaluated the results from BPR.This dissertation is based on BPR theory and an analysis of the author's first hand information, and will be of reference signficance to the informalized management of small and medium-sized manufacturers, especially to those transformed from research institutes.
