The thesis, which is founded on several subjects such as tourism, management, marketing, and so on, studies a series of problems focusing on Sport Event Tourism (SET), including the concept, classification and features of SET, the present situation of foreign and domestic SET, the motives and behavioral characteristics of sports event tourists, market segmentation of SET, the distribution and exploitation of SET, the marketing and management of SET. The studying methods are as follows: literature search, system analysis, qualitative and quantitative analysis and case study.The thesis is divided into seven chapters:The first chapter is introduction. This part explains the reason for choosing SET as research subject and states the theoretical and practical significance of this study. Thereafter the paper reviews the foreign and domestic SET-related literature and indicates the studying methods, content and theoretical basis of research.The second chapter is a general survey of SET. First, the concept of"SET"is defined. Then, the paper states the three categories (i.e.Sport Mega-event Tourism, Sport Hallmark-event Tourism, Sport Community-event Tourism) of SET and the features of SET activities. Last, the paper discusses the present situation of foreign and domestic SET.The next three chapters are the main body of the thesis. These three parts study SET market, SET exploitation and SET marketing and management for systematic analysis.The third chapter firstly defines"sport event tourists"as: person who leaves his or her residence temporarily and heads for another place for the reason of visiting or participating in a sport event. Second, the paper discusses the motives and the behavioral characteristics of sport event tourists. Finally, analysis the sports event tourist market, and put forward a set of market development strategy.The fourth chapter studies sports event tourism development of the relevant issues specifically. First, proposes the objectives and principles of development of the sports event tourism. Secondly, focuses on the three sports event tourism development model. Finally, discusses the development of sports tourism related measures.The fifth chapter focuses on the sport event tourism marketing and management problems. First of all, pointed out that sports tourism needs from sports sponsorship, image speak for the four aspects vigorously publicity and marketing. Secondly, discusses in the management of sports event tourism from the government, economic and human resources, proving that the SET needs to be getting more support in terms of five, can be a solid development.The sixth chapter is case study. This part is another focus of this paper. Beijing 2008 Olympic Game is selected as a case for in-depth study through which the paper endeavors to integrate theories with practice. The focus of the immigration Beijing Olympic tourism source markets, and based on this, expounded its corresponding marketing strategy. Finally, from the Beijing Olympics in five aspects of the proposed strategic recommendations.The last chapter is conclusion. This part summarizes the content of the thesis and puts forward some problems which need further research.
