This article analyzes different roles of equipment designer, equipment manufacturer and builder in the power plant construction in various perspectives, then figures out the value chain structure of the power plant construction process, which would be an important reference both theoretically and practically for the power industry in China.With the power plant construction value chain and its structure variation as the research object, this article figures out the value creation and value status of different factors in power plant construction, such as technology, labor, and knowledge.First, this article puts forward and analyzes the value chain of power plant construction, and with the investment per kW as the value measurement and analyzing standard, analyzes the value creation of different primary activities in the power plant construction process such as equipment manufacturing, investigation & design, civil engineering, and construction & installation.Then, with the study of the investment per kW and its variation in different periods and with different capacity, this articles figures out that high-level and large capacity power unit has the better effectiveness, and primarily analyzes the influence of the technology factor and design intelligence factor on power plant value chain.Finally, this article deeply analyzes the investment structure and its variation in different periods and with different technology level, wherein including some representative power plant construction projects, which indicates the contribution of technology and knowledge towards the value chain structure variation, and figures out that the value chain structure of power plant construction could be optimized by improving the designing and technology level of power plant projects.From all above, this article gets some conclusion as following: in the value chain of power plant construction, the intelligence factor (investigation & design) has the most influence on investment, follows the technology factor (equipment manufacturing), while the normal labor factor (civil engineering) is always in the lower end of the value chain. The variation of value chain structure is the synthetical result of technology advancement and design optimization. This conclusion provides a theoretical reference for the design and optimization of the value chain of power plant construction and the regulation of national industrial and technological policy on power industry structure.
