The co-operative movement in Canada, the example of the international co-operative movements, plays a very important role in developing agriculture, flourishing business, and steadying society. While the rural in China is seeing the coming of climax of the third co-operative movement now, to study the co-operative movement in Canada, should enlighten our country to develop our co-operatives, to enhance the understanding of the status and action of our co-operatives on the conditions of market economy, and to build socialist new rural well.Around this subject, this paper, upholding the dialectical materialism, historical materialism and the Scientific Concept of Development as guide, expounds the co-operative movement in Canada and its meanings for China from three parts, after we define the co-operatives. The first part mainly produces the origin, development and tendency of the co-operative movement in Canada, showing its basic conditions. The second part mainly brings out the histories, conditions, and some problems of the co-operative movement in China, and analyses its characteristics and causes lead to it. The last part sets some problems we should attention in learning Canada's experiences in developing co-operatives, on the conditions of the co-operatives between Canada and China. This paper makes it clear that that the co-operative is just a co-operation for the production and operation, not the reflection of ownership, and now co-operatives in our country have the nature of mixed economy. Due to historical reasons, environmental reasons, subjective reasons and institutional constraints, the cooperatives through a tortuous development, is still in a relatively stagnant state. To accelerate the development of cooperatives in our country, should fully understand the important role of cooperatives and study the development of cooperatives from the Canadian experience, uphold the principle that cooperatives should be built, operated and profited by the farmers, establish and improve the government's proper policy support system and the macro-management, constantly promote cooperatives in the internal management system of construction and development.
