Jiangsu Coastal Port Development Study

The paper analyses the present situation and problems of costal ports of Jiangsu Province, puts forward how to develop these ports to advance the steadily and smoothly growth of costal ports and costal areas of Jiangsu Province.At first, the general situation of coastal areas of Jiangsu Province is introduced. The laggard development of coastal ports of Jiangsu Province is expressed and analyzed as well. Besides, we have a general picture of ports development in Shandong Province and Shanghai and Zhejiang Province. And then, the main costal ports of Jiangsu Province are compared with each other, according to the four principles such as: position and transportation condition of ports, natural conditions of ports. By doing this, the relative advantages and disadvantages of these ports are clearly presented. Third, by using the mathematical methods such as Elasticity coefficient Process, Linear regression and Grey Model, the future throughput of Jiangsu coastal ports are predicted. It is aimed to give valuable suggestion for the scale of ports development.Based on all above, by analyzing the structure of Jiangsu coastal ports and the situation of ports around Jiangsu Province, the strategic positioning of the ports themselves are defined, especially to make clear the roles Jiangsu coastal ports plays under the background of Shanghai International Shipping Center. Besides, a comparative analyst between the ports projects be constructed and the throughput be increased is made, to make clear whether the development plan of Jiangsu costal ports will meet the needs of ever increasing throughput.Finally, seven important suggestions are proposed such as: to make and implement comprehensive development plan of Jiangsu costal ports as soon as possible, perfect managerial system of Jiangsu Ports and so on.Nowadays, research on the development of Jiangsu costal ports are either on the natural conditions or on the economic influences of the ports, and most of these research papers are base on interests of a city rather than the whole Jiangsu coastal ports. Have a comprehensive study on the Jiangsu coastal ports is what this paper want to do.
