China's Economic Growth And Environmental Pollution, The Relationship Between Empirical Research

Since our country carried out the policies of reform and opening up, China's economic growth has improved people's living standards and social welfare. However, it is followed by a series of environmental problems. Furthermore, environmental quality becomes worse, while people ask for higher environmental quality. Thus, the problem between economic growth and environmental degradation has attracted many concerns, and at the same time the relationship between the two areas of research has become a hot issue. Since the 20th century, with the improvement in environmental monitoring technology, people can access a large number of environmental data. As a result, scholars are beginning to use these data to analyze the relationship between the environmental quality and economic growth.Based on the establishment of the evaluation index about environmental pollution, this paper aims at investigating the relationship between the economic growth and the environmental pollution by using cointegration methods. Research shows that environmental pollution is negatively related to the current GDP per capita, while positively correlated with the previous GDP per capita, and moreover, the latter one plays stronger influence than the former one. Consequently, under both the current and the previous influence, economic growth is the main factor, which induces the emissions of environmental pollution to increase. Along with the industrial structure adjustment and the introduction of various environmental policies, the current economic growth on the environment has a positive impact. However, due to the previous environmental pollution caused by economic growth, whose base is very large, weakens the positive impact on current performance, and cannot be enough to offset the initial environmental pollution. As a result, the deteriorating trend on environmental pollution will continue. Therefore, through the formation mechanism of the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution, we hope to provide a reference path for our industrial policy.Government should deepen the economic reform, and economic reform must come back to economic development strategies, especially when faced with serious environmental stress, which is crucial for the improvement of environmental quality. To accelerate adjustment of economic instruction, the new economic sectors must be guided by the benefit of environmental protection. The government should reduce the proportion of secondary industry. During the time of adjustment of industry structure within the industry, we should focuses on reducing the share of polluting industries weight and the pressure on polluting industries, and developing clean production and recycling economy. Strengthen environmental protection by depending on technological progress, take action of technological innovation by relying on environmental policy, and improve environmental regulations, all of which are important for protecting environment.
