The Relationship Between Economic Growth And Environmental Pollution Of Qingdao

With rapid economic development, environmental degradation's obstacle to economic development is increasing apparent. After several decades overburdened years of economic growth, excessive request for material and energy has led to environment. pollution and ecological imbalance, which seriously undermined the balance between human and nature and endangered the existence and development of the human being. Environmental crisis frequently outbreaks, economy-related environmental problems are being paid more and more attention now.Different from the traditional economy development at the expense of environment and resources, sustainable development is the mode of economic growth that attempts to bridge the divide between economic growth and environmental quality. In another words, it is the coordinated and balanced program of environment and economic development. It seeks development means of supporting continuous economic growth while considering the capacity of the environment and without limiting economic growth for the sake of environmental protection. Now, it has become a eternal theme we pursue.Qingdao is one of relatively faster economic development cities in China, and has comparatively better environmental conditions. High-quality environmental conditions play an extremely important role in attracting the talents and investments, but "three wastes" discharges of pollutants are more and more increasingly with rapid economy development in Qingdao. In recent years, Qingdao has established a strategy of "protection around the Jiaozhou Bay, development around the Jiaozhou Bay" in accord to strengthen environmental protection. Studying the relationship between the economic growth and environmental pollution of Qingdao has important significance both in theory and reality.This paper presents a summary comment of existing theories first, and then it is found that there indeed exist some environment problems in Qingdao while economy is growing rapidly with the qualitative analysis of the current situation of economic growth and environment pollution. Second, build systems of evaluation both in environment pollution level and economic growth level under certain principles. And then borrowing ideas from related research theory and method at home and abroad, use the data of years of 1985-2008 environment pollution and economic growth in Qingdao to examine the relationship between them:apply Granger causality analysis to verify the Cause-and-effect relationship between environment pollution and economic growth, next use of impulse response function curve analyze the mechanism of this relationship. And then empirical analyze the Environment Kuznets Curve (EKC) of Qingdao and the stage of economic situation and environmental condition. Finally, put forward suggestions about how to maintain environment and economy sustainable development based on the above analysis, combining with the actual situation in Qingdao.The result shows that there exists Granger causality in the relationship between the economic growth and environmental pollution, and the relationship is affected by time lag. Economic growth don't immediately result in environmental pollution, its impact is gradual, progressive, long-term. This type of trend must be attached more and more attention. Pursuit of short-term economic benefits and ignoring long-term effect on the environment is incorrect. The impact of external shocks on economic growth and environmental will not return to the initial level in a long period of time and showed a permanent effect. So ever-changing macro-control policies can be made for different stages of economic development suppress economic fluctuation. In order to prevent permanent damage to the environment, timely deal with environmental pollution and make the quantity of contaminants in the range of environmental capacity.The relationship between Qingdao more than two decades per capital GDP and environmental pollution shows a significant inverted U-Kuznets curve, the amount of contaminants is still in the rising stage of EKC and hasn't reached the turning point. To ensure coordination and sustainable development of economy and environment, we can adopt measures such as changing the mode of economic growth and optimizing the industrial structure to reduce the peak of EKC.
