In today's world, although there is still intense nationality consciousness, on account of technical, economical and social development, exchanges and interactions among countries are more frequent than any period in history. Such a trend is more obvious in China, a country that is experiencing an economic booming period. It is also the internal and external demand of the development of China and the world.Based on the above background, we become more and more aware of the importance of national image in terms of development of a country and social progress. However, previous construction of national image reveals such problems as lack of character of the era, expressiveness, and communicability. To solve the significant strategic issue, our country took a series of measures. The bid for Shanghai World Expo in 2010 is an opportunity to construct, display and propagate our national image.Taking the chance of Shanghai World Expo and choosing the relation between buildings of the World Expo and national image as point of penetration, this research first reviews the development history of the buildings of the World Expo and concludes their characteristics, thus the design attributes of these special buildings for exhibition are fully understood. Then through horizontal and vertical comparisons of some typical national pavilions, this research sorts out the development skeleton and design strategies of the buildings of the World Expo and embodiment of national image via the buildings. After the analysis of the history of China pavilion and summary of gains and losses of Shanghai World Expo in 2010, the research puts forward some basic design procedures and integrating strategies of the future China pavilion and construction of national image, based on correlational research conclusions in the previous part of the paper. We hope to offer some reference for construction of our national image via national pavilion of the World Expo in the future.
