As the deep development of the economic globalization, the relationships between the countries having greatly intimate, and the international relationships are also undergoing a big readjustment. It is necessary for country not only to gather"hard power", but also to develop prominent"soft power"such as the appeals of its political system and culture, political persuasiveness and a charming national image. National image is the overall perception of a certain nation hold by foreign publics. National image can be a kind of"soft power", which plays an important role in the implementation of the nation's politic strategy. National image is so important that it takes effect on the status and the role played by the nation in the global community. An excellent national image is a passport for a country to gather into the global community as well as the engine drive for the country's economic development.During past twenty and thirty years china has made such a great progress that many people in the world become more and more interested in china. However, there are still a lot of misunderstandings about china, so china should attach more attention to the state's national image to reduce the misunderstandings. World Expo, recognized as the economic, technical as well as cultural Olympic, is a good opportunity for china to build national image.By reference to the theory of"soft power", this article tries to analyze the importance of national image in international relationships and discuss the paths to build national image. Besides, the paper makes analysis on current situation about china's image and tries to search for ways to build china's image. Taking all these as the base, the article makes an in-depth analysis in the positive role that Shanghai Expo will play in building china's image from four aspects such as economy, politics, culture and diplomacy.
