In the wave of digital broadcasting, digital broadcast television is replacing the analogue radio and television. Set-top box personal video recorder(PVR)system uses digital technology to record television programs on the storage disk, enabling users to their own free-wheeling in watching television is one of the important functions attracting users. This paper is researching the realizing of PVR system in the digital set-top box software.In this text, the set-top box software and hardware platform are had in-depth analysis first, and then the set-top box USB principle and TS flow concept are analyzed, after that the program modules on the PVR system are introduced. On this basis, we have in-depth analysis and study of the recording pause,resume recording, stop recording module during recording, and finally, the timer recording module. In the program recording module design, we first have a brief analysis of the process of program recording. On this basis, the program recording module is divided into boot-time initialization, key response and start recording three blocks. Through the process analysis of PVR recording, we design the corresponding functions and data structures, completed the following three processes: the initialization of parameters and key messages in boot-time; detect USB storage disk and after that get handles and parameters, then record programs and generate files; plug PMT tables and other network table information into the files while recording. So we successfully achieve the function of program recording in set-top boxes.In the module design of pause recording and resume recording during recording process,based on program recording module, we design the corresponding functions, completed the response in the key messages and at the same time, judging whether set-top box is in suspended state. If it is paused then resumed recording, or to suspend the controls. Thus a program pause recording and resume recording function is realized in the recording process.In the module design of stop recording module design during the recording process, first the stopping process of recording is analyzed. On this basis, the design functions and data structures are designed. According to the status of the the system after the key responsing is in time-shifted state or non-time-shifted state, the appropriate function is called to complete cessation of recording, in order to achieve the cessation of recording function.Timer recording module is based on the completion of the above modules. The appropriate functions and data structure are designed, completed recording the setting program in period of time appointment. Thus timer recording function is achieved.Studied in this paper and the achievement of the content are important components of the PVR system in set-top box software. The PVR function implemented lays the foundation for the follow-up digital home. The set-top boxes which have this feature are already started selling as a product, so that the function of this realization plays a major role in the occupation in the market for the company's set-top box product.
