Along with the development of computer networks and wireless communications technology, a wide application of wireless networking technology has been applied to various fields. at the same time, demand is also growing, they want to have more and more high-tech products. Virtually We have to live in a wireless network environment, these wireless networks are interwoved. Wireless local area network (WLAN), WIMAX, Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN), Wireless Mesh Network (WMN), wireless sensor network (WSN), AdHoc,3G and B3G mobile communications networks, and many other new networking technologies using different heterogeneous. The emergence of these technologies brought a profound change to the people's work and lifestyle. Compared with the traditional wired networks, WiFi (IEEE802.11 family of standards) and WiMAX (IEEE802.16 family of standards) has advanced technology, network flexibility, mobility support is good, a good industrial chain, and many other advantages, is currently very competitive power wireless network technology. WiFi and WiMAX wireless heterogeneous network convergence has also been more and more attention.In this paper, We study the WIFI and WIMAX networks from their own characteristics, analysis the both technical step by step. Discuss the current research set forth in the WIFI and WIMAX wireless heterogeneous networks Networking Method. This paper focuses on WIFI and WIMAX wireless heterogeneous network handoff technology, combined with proposed IEEE802.21 media independent Handoff to mention set up a WIFI and WIMAX wireless heterogeneous networks, vertical handoff process, and then on the vertical handoff in the decision to discuss strategy for the media independent handoff characteristics, On the heterogeneous network can be effective access to decision algorithm analysis parameters. At last, use the NS2 software to simulation the handoff process of the heterogeneous network and handoff decision. MIH vertical integration further verify the feasibility of switching, but also through the experimental data to select a good decision to handoff algorithms.
