With the development of the researching on embedded system, there appears a trend that network techniques have a combination with embedded system. At same time, the digital media compression algorithm has got an obvious development. It makes transmitting high quality video with a lower rate through the net. MPEG-4 is applying to the field of net media become possible. Developing with the technique of VLSI, the complex algorithm can realize more easily. Based on the above background, the embedded multimedia player terminal based on the high-performance embedded processor is researched and implemented in this paper.The project uses S3C2440 with the core of ARM9 IP core as the MPU, FLASH and SDROM as store unit. Because of the ARM9 architecture chip with MMU, Linux is chosen as the operation system. Using GCC paekage, Binutils(binaryutilities) paekage, Debugger gdb debugger machineas the tools ehain. Use the touch serene as mutual people-maehine operation. And the GUI system afforded by MiniGUI.In our solution, we don't adopt the Hardware Decoder, but Software Decoder to implement the Encoder/Decoder module. This paper concerns on algorithms of MPEG on embedded system. Lots of literatures are analyzed, algorithms of Encoder/Decoder based on MPEG on embedded system are researched, and some novel algorithms and solutions are presented. In audio encoder module, DCT and IDCT are performed on each subband, and in video decoder module, the IDCT is optimized to reduce the computational cost, which guarantee the ARM kernel is best used.The integrity solution which realizes audio decoding and video decoding is presented. This solution implements MP3 audio and MPEG4 video with supporting play, pause, speeding up or down, circulation or random play functions and so on. This solution has a playing list and supports the functions of playing folder, recording and storing audio, file management. In the end, the conclusion is given, and the problems of embedded mobile multimedia terminal that need to solve and perfect are described.
