Since the invention of high power electronic element IGBT, it has been widely used in many fields, such as industry and electronic consumption fields, especially high power drives. In those applications, the gate-driving of IGBT should be paid more attention to. In high-voltage and large power applications, the requirements of IGBT driving system include the high isolated voltage level, the better electrical insulation, especially on unusual conditions of under water, flammability etc., and the multiple outputs in large scale equipment. In recent years, researches on contactless power transmission become hot topic, and the rapid development of wireless technology make wireless trigger be feasible. All these provide a new solution to IGBT's driving. A novel driving power supply system based on contactless power transmission is presented in this paper, to provide reliable power to IGBT.In this paper, the circuit topology of the novel IGBT driving power system is proposed, the working principles are analyzed, the mutual inductance mathematic models of a dual core transformer are established and the coupling resistance characteristics of transformer are studied. The parameters of novel contactless power transmission transformer are calculated based on AP method. The related experiments are researched on the transmission distance and efficiency, and the factors affecting the transformer's performance. It is shown from both the analysis and the primary experiment that the novel driving power supply system suggested in this paper has the features of high isolated level, better electrical insulation and multiple outputs.
