With the advent of the information age, the high throughput of network have been widely applied in social life, scientific research, etc. Using traditional network card to send and receive messages, CPU utilization or even as high as 100%, cause the system can not work. Different network card has different bus interface, And the ISA, PCI, PCIX bus interface is now widely used by traditional network card. The bus has simple structure, low cost, simple design, But parallel bus is unable to connect many equipment, when connecting multiple devices, bus effective bandwidth would dramatically reduce, transmission speeds slower, And high frequency interference between the lines, will cause the system doesn't work.The International Committee has launched a PCI E bus.PCI E is a new serial point-to-point the I/O bus system, using a dual were, point-to-point technology, bus number significantly reduced, and the differential transmission line, which greatly reduced space disturbance, Rate up to 5.0 GB/s. Use this bus nic can meet the higher speed and higher bandwidth networks need.This paper introduced the development of network card, and the principle and function of network card, and combining network processors XLS408 with intelligent hardware modules (PCI E bus module, temperature module, power supply module and redundancy FLASH load module, etc.), designed PCI E bus gigabit nics. This paper introduces the development of the network, the network principles and functions. Mainly introduces the hardware design. And discussed impedance matching and power key technologies such as synchronization management..The design of network hardware mainly has the following features:1. High-performance, high density XLS408 network processor, Its built-in hardware encryption and decryption accelerator (secure engine), compressed sources accelerator (compression engine), hardware network accelerator, enhanced the safety performance of network system, improve the network data processing ability.2. FLASH loading using redundancy design ideas, enhance the reliability of the system.3. The impedance matching technology and the massive use capacitance and inductance and magnetic bead greatly improved the signal integrity system. 4. Synchronization works of power module greatly reduces the EMI interference.5. With on-chip temperature alarms when the temperature exceeds the limit value, the network card automatically reduce the volume of work or stop working, and so on, so that the network card with over-temperature protection functionality.6. Using PCI E difference serial bus transport to prevent cross-talk between bus, and improve the transmission speed; the supply voltage is low, and reduced power consumption.7. Network card with different versions of the software can support zero copy function, TOE functions, greatly reduced the share of the motherboard CPU.
