RFID(Radio Frequeney Identifieation) is an uncontact automatic identification technology. Because of its many advantages such as contactless, long working distance, suitable for bad environment, efficient recognizing ability, RFID is rapidly spreading in industry, commerce, and traffic transport management fields etc. It is necessary to rapidly research RFID technology with own intellectual property and compatible with international standard, for the Chinese RFID market will grow steadily in the near future.The RFID systems are vulnerable to be attacked because each RFID tag can be scanned remotely by anyone. So the security and privacy of system suffers threat. The security issues of RFID system have become the focus of attention. To study security mechanisms of the low-cost RFID has become the key problem for application of RFID technology.In this thesis, the author first introduced the structure, the working principle, the classification and the technical standards of RFID system, and pointed out possible security attacks and security needs. Then the author analyzed some typical safety mechanisms, pointed out the virtues and defects, and further analyzed the research status quo about security protocol of the low-cost RFID, also discussed the major loopholes of typical security protocol for low-cost RFID.An enhanced authentication protocol for the low-cost RFID is proposed based on the analysis of typical methods. In this protocol, the author put a random number generator in the reader, and put a counter in the tag and database for every tag. It adopts bi-directional authentication mechanism and IDs'dynamic refreshment mechanism. As this protocol needs no search for all tags and perform hash function on them, it fits for the RFID system where the tags number is large. It has resolved the data synchronization problem caused by IDs'dynamic refreshment. The new protocol can counteract effectively series of the security attack as replay attacking, fake attacking, and DoS attacking and so on. Its security and applicability has been improved.Finally, this thesis verified that the label's exhaustive search issue has been resolved in the improved protocol through comparing the size of calculating in back-end database. The feasibility analysis and safety analysis of the new protocol shows its security can be guaranteed and it can be achieved in low-cost RFID.
