Embedded GIS is now a research focus in the field of information technology, especially when combined with GPS technology, brings great convenience to people's life. The system is applied to land and forest resources management, especially in remote forest areas for forest management and fire disaster navigation service, has some rate of economic value and practical significance.The forest fire prevention and navigation system based on embedded GIS has been researched in the application of Xscale processor, Windows Mobile operating system and G738L hardware platform for forest fire prevention and navigation. First, the system development background, significance and development in and abroad was introduced in the paper, then the system development platform, spatial database building and navigation algorithm and application were described. Finally, a forest fire prevention and navigation system has been designed and implemented.The foundation of platform development is the basis of the system, and combined with actual demand build hardware and software for the system development platform. Database development is the core step, including data collection, analysis, entry and processing, which are designed completely in strict accordance with the requirements of spatial database. Navigation algorithm and application is the focus of this article, which is through the integration and optimization of many existing navigation algorithm. As the speciality of forest navigation, the complexity of the algorithm has increased compare with the previous single method, but it will improve navigation accuracy, obtain higher overall system performance and be more in line with actual demand after being optimized by transplantation. System Design and Implementation is in compliance with software engineering, using the process of requirements analysis, overall design, detailed design, commissioning and operation.Based on embedded GIS technology, navigation systems are timely detection and location of forest fire, and rescue workers with real-time navigation in remote forest areas where is more difficult in artificial forest fire prevention. In the absence of disaster, it can serve as the general forest navigation system, is of great practical value.Finally, the paper introduces the prototype testing, the inadequacies of the system design and summarizes some possible improving methods, the design experience and the efforts that will be done in the future, and provides a good example for such embedded GIS system development.
