Combining the status of the Advanced Public Traffic System at home and abroad, through the research of wireless sensor networks, a vehicle location program in the application of intelligent transportation system using ZigBee and a communication network program were proposed, and the implementation and testing of key technology involved in program in the prototype system was carried out. The major research and innovation are as follows:Firstly, the development of the Advanced Public Traffic System and the significance, background of the issue were introduced, several short-range wireless communication protocols were analysed, and the ZigBee technology was selected.The ZigBee protocol was studied; some key points in the development process were summarized. A number of ZigBee chips were compared and the JN51XX chip was selected to do research.Localization is the basis of the Advanced Public Traffic System; LQI-distance model based on measured data was established. LQI Ranging stability and anti-interference was analysed. The ZigBee chip JN5147 with TOF ranging was tested. HDOP has been used to study the impact of positioning accuracy. A high-precision vehicle localization method combining TOF/RSSI and odometer was presented.The building of public transport communication networks based on ZigBee was studied, ZigBee public transport information and communication network of cellular partition was presented, and the idea of distributed traffic control system was described.Aimed at the earlier introduction of the ZigBee localization and communication network program, the Prototype System of Advanced Public Traffic System was achieved. The results of the research have been achieved in the prototype demonstration system. Test results show that, the design program is feasible and effective, meeting the desired design requirements.
