Wireless sensor network (Wireless Sensor Networks, WSNs) is deployed in acertain region to a large number of sensor nodes, nodes through wirelesscommunication to form a multi-hop self-organizing network system. WSN has theadvantages of low power consumption, low cost and topology control.Cellular automata (Cellular Automata, CA) is defined in a discrete, finite state bythe cellular composition of space, according to some local rules in discrete timedimension on synchronous evolution of dynamical systems[1][2]. The design idea ofcellular automata is rooted in biology since the idea of reproduction, so its application inbiology is very natural and widely. After obtained the widespread application in the fieldof biology, cellular automata have been applied to every field of social, economic,military and scientific research.In this paper, the integration of design idea of cellular automata to design protocolsin wireless sensor network, based on the characteristics of Zigbee+WLANheterogeneous network two cellular automata mechanism was designed, twomechanisms were applied to the Zigbee subnet and WLAN subnet. The two networknode using cellular automata mechanism can cellular automata informationpiggybacking collection in the communication process, according to the dynamiccellular automaton state transition mechanism of the node sleep/work status switch.The core features using cellular automata mechanism of network protocol isself-organizing, no external force, and no transmission overhead. According to thedifference of these two kinds of network, scheduling model design is not the same.Finally, using NS2Simulation, verified the correctness of the mechanism. The cellularautomata network node can automatically switch working state, the two seedrespectively, energy saving, and ultimately achieving the overall network energy, andprolong the network lifetime, improve energy utilization rate of the data transmission.
