Under the internet background, application environment and user's requirements is easy to change. It has become one of the most popular unsolved problems in the Web software industry that how to make the web interface adapt to or meet requirements changes and diversity. In order to deal with the problem, we integrate flexible software ideology with component technology, present the concept of Flexible User Interface Component(FUIC) and Flexible Web User Interface(FWUI), and then design the basic structure of flexible user interface component and a component-based flexible web user interface model.Firstly, we discussed and analyzed the basic concepts of software flexibility, flexibility level and the flexibility representation forms, summarized the theoretical knowledge of components and three major component technologies, and then made a further research on the relation between domain engineering and flexible software development.Secondly, based on the knowledge of flexible software ideology, component technology and domain engineering, we put forward the concept of FUIC, introduced the characteristic, general structure, configuration process and lifecycle of FUIC. We deeply describe the classification, storage, retrieval and evaluation of flexible user interface component library.Thirdly, after summing up the main factors of user requirements changes, the specific concept of FWUI was given, and the characteristics and advantages of FWUI were described in detail. Based on FUIC, we put forward the component-based flexible web user interface model, which separate two different categories information of FWUI, namely the display style template and the data structure component-role, and stored them separately in XML document and relational database. Consequently, we detailedly design the four key part of the model.Finally, based on the component-based flexible web user interface model, a FWUI for displaying student information query result was given to illustrate the effectiveness and availability of FWUI and the model.
