As a leading product in CAD industry, AutoCAD is widely used all over the world. DWG has already become the standard of 2D CAD. Many CAD systems support to read and write DWG file format. As the main existing form of engineering drawings, DWG file's forms record a lot of product information. How to deal with these forms and extract the data from them to make the product data's collection, reuse and management convenient? All these are the problem I try to solve in the article. Several contents of the study are mentioned as follows:Firstly, common form types in AutoCAD are introduced. The conversion between different types and the processing process to form in practical work are analyzed.Secondly, through the access to AutoCAD database, every data object is searched and confirmed in its type to get all the horizontal, vertical lines and the texts.Thirdly, after identifying the top right point of drawing frame, the basis points of heading table and subsidiary column are calculated and their positions are certain. By reading the cell grids information in the drawing configuration file, their positions and sizes can be determined and then the heading table can be identified completely. After getting the coordinates of top right point in the subsidiary column region, the size and position of each cell grid can be calculated out and then subsidiary column is distinguished..Finally, by calculating the distance between the cell grid feature points and the text center point, the text can be extracted from it.In the end of this article, under the guidance of this form processing method, an ARX module is developed with the ObjectARX 2006 SDK. Through an example, the method is proved to be right and effectual. In accordance with user's requirements, the reorganization of the form data and reconstruction to a product structure tree are realized. All form data can be saved as a XLS file.
