Design And Implementation Of Etl In Shanxi Postal Integrated Information Management System

Along with the development of market economy in China, the China postal industry is facing unprecedented challenges. In order to survive and grow, China postal industry must step into modernization era, in which the informatisation becomes the necessity.Information has become one of the most important resources to the modern enterprises; it is also the fundamental index to strategic analysis. Shanxi postal industry owns dozens of information systems, which take on the main production task in form of information silo. Therefore, a database-technologies-centralized integrated information management system is demanded by Shanxi Postal industry. The ETL (Extract,Transform,Load)system will run through the data warehouse construction process.This paper is to tell how to extract and convert the data from different application systems, data platforms and various forms into standardized format and uploaded to the required database. As the core of the BI/ DW(Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse), ETL can integrate and improve the values of the data; it coverts the data sources to target database; it is the key step for the implement process. How to use the existing tools like SSIS to realize the ETL is the main content of this article.By running the shanxi postal integrated information management system, the data from different operation systems will be integrated, by combining the local region, humanities and economic database, it extracts into the operational management information which draws manager's attentions. All of those will be displayed in one platform and helps strategic decision-making. In such way, the informatisation promotes scientific decision-making and management. However, we also noticed some deficiencies and the direction for improvement, which leads our next step is to focus on the data mining application in the system.
